DESCRIPTION
The Roman L Hruska Federal Courthouse was the first design excellence project commissioned by the General Services Administration in 1994 and completed 6 years later. This six story 350,000 sf Federal Courthouse has 9 courtrooms arranged around a central atrium: Special Proceedings, Appeals, District, Magistrates and Bankruptcy. Judicial support spaces include the Jury Assembly, Grand Jury Suites, a Law Library, and Judges' Chambers. Two bronze grilles by artist Stephen Robin as part of GSA's Art-in-Architecture program, are set into the pre-cast concrete just above the North and South sides of the grand staircase in the atrium.
The interiors included programming, space planning, as well as the selection of the furniture and finishes.
