Located on a traffic triangle where Canal Street bends at the entry to Chinatown, the information kiosk is the second one to be designed for Lower Manhattan Development Corporation. The building was designed to be a Gateway to Chinatown, a neon pagoda with an iconic dragon at the roof that became the graphic image of the Explore Chinatown Tourism Campaign. The project was begun with the site selection for the second small temporary building.
